We know that legal terminology can be a bit baffling. Our legal dictionary provides an explanation to some of the more common words and phrases that you may come across. If there is anything you do not understand please do not hesitate to ask.
Tenancy
Agreement to let a property for a period for rent.
Testator
A person making a Will - Female is a 'Testatrix'.
Trespass
Trespass is a wrong. A trespasser is a person who enters on a land without authority. A person/body who continues to remain on land after expiry of his / her / its authority will be a trespasser. Proceedings can be brought to remove a trespasser and regain possession of land.
Tracks
Cases are assigned through county courts as one of three trackes: Small claims, fast and multi tracks. 'Small Claims Track' are claims under £5,000.00. 'Fast Track' are claims between £5,000.00 AND £15,000.00. 'Multi-Track' are claims over £15,000.00, alternatively matters involving complicated matters of law and fact.
Trust
These are either created during a person's lifetime or through his/her Will. The person making the gift permanently gives away the asset, which is held by Trustees (usually two) for the benefit of Beneficiaries e.g. children under 18.
Trustees
Person/s appointed either under a Will or a Trust. They are responsible of taking care of the assets and ensuring that those entitled ultimately receive their entitlemen.
