Parental Responsibility Order

An order of the court or written agreement, required by a father of a child, who is not married to the child's mother.


Paternity

Establishing who is the father of the child.


Particulars Of Claim

Document detailing the claim, which is usually filed with the claim form when commencing proceedings in the court. It must comply with the civil procedure rules.


Penal Notice

A notice, with an order of the Court allowing a party in breach of the court order to be sent to prison.


Pension Attachment

An Order of the court, under certain conditions allowing a spouse to benefit in the other spouses pension.


Pension Sharing Agreement

An order of the court allowing a wife/husband to take a share of the others pension in their own right.


Periodical Payments Order

An order of the court making a regular payment to a wife or child.


Personal Representatives

Executors and Administrators.


Personal Injury Claim

A claim for compensation made by someone injured in an accident, which was not his or her fault.


Potentially Exempt Transfer (Pet)

This is a gift, which may or may not be taxable depending on whether the person making the gift (the Donor) survives 7 years.


Possession Proceedings

Claim for recovery of land, whether because of arrears of rent, mortgage or for any breach of agreement or tenancy.


Probate

A Grant of Probate is to enable an Executor to prove his/her right to deal with the testate's i.e. deceased's assets, which pass under the Will and/or Codicil. The Grant of Probate is issued by the Court (Probate Registry). The Court checks the Will. Not all the assets require a Grant of Probate or Grant of Representation e.g. some insurance policies, personal chattels and Estates under £5,000.00.


Proceedings

Any claim proceeding through the courts (must comply with the civil procedure rules).


Prohibited Steps Order

An order of the court preventing certain action being taken by a person in relation to a child without the courts agreement.


Public Funding (Popularly Known As Legal Aid)

A means tested system in which in certain circumstances the Government will pay or subsidise the legal costs of a person involved in a court case.
